Nicolas Cage Gets Slick
Nicolas Cage continues his quirky
box office ride. The Hollywood trades report that the actor, who has made a string
of hit action films since landing the Best Actor Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas last
year, is set to star in and produce an action-comedy called Tom Slick: Monster Hunter.
No, we are not making this up. The film, which is in development at 20th Century
Fox, is loosely based on the life of Texas oil heir Tom Slick, Jr., who spent his
family's fortune in the fifties on global expeditions to track down the greatest
monsters known to man, including the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, et al. Slick was
the subject of a 1989 book by Loren Coleman titled Tom Slick and the Search for Yeti.
Cage, who is signed on to play the lead in the now-delayed Superman Lives, is currently
filming the Brian De Palma-directed Snake Eyes, and has already wrapped City of Angels
with Meg Ryan.
